Participating in a JETRO Business Matching Event in Kobe
We traveled to Kobe to attend a business matching event hosted by Japan External Trade Organization, held at the Oriental Hotel Kobe.
Through prior matchmaking, we were connected with a trading company from Morocco. The meeting unfolded in a calm and respectful atmosphere. The owner, Ali, listened attentively to our story, while the interpreter skillfully conveyed our intentions in French, allowing for a smooth and heartfelt exchange.
We had the opportunity to serve an extremely rare Samidori cultivar—of which only around three kilograms are produced annually. Tasting it, our counterpart responded with clear delight, reaffirming the universal power of exceptional tea to transcend language and borders.
When discussing potential buyers such as luxury hotels, Ali emphasized the importance of a “step-by-step” approach. His perspective offered valuable insight into the realities of international business and reminded us of the patience and trust required to build lasting partnerships.
One particularly striking moment came when we heard that in Morocco, Japanese spirituality—expressed through meticulous craftsmanship and way of life—is deeply respected and increasingly sought after. This resonated profoundly with our own mission and led to the idea of hosting experiential tea events in Morocco in the future.
Throughout the day, we were once again impressed by the high caliber of JETRO’s support and matchmaking capabilities. It left us with a strong sense that, by growing together with such partners, we can expand the reach of Japanese tea culture in a thoughtful and sustainable way.
